Customs
Excise Union members protest Nov 1, 2002 Customs Officers know
better. Every day, like police across Canada, Customs Officers
deal with criminals, some hardened and non-compliant.
Enforcement statistics on Criminal Code enforcement at the border
stand in stark contrast to CCRA comments that this is no big deal.
The stats represent a very different reality. Since July
2000, when Code enforcement started, Officers have executed 1,062
arrest warrants, arrested 45 child abductors, intercepted 2,987
intoxicated drivers and carried out 697 arrests involving other
forms of criminality. CEUDA
and its members are holding a protest rally. On behalf of
all Customs Officers across Canada, CEUDA will give back to
the CCRA 1000’s of Officer Powers Designation Cards authorizing
Customs Officers to enforce Criminal Code at Canada’s border.
