Bilingualism

The Customs Excise Union Douanes Accise is a national union responsible for offering effective, quality representation to its members. Our commitment to service reflects the fact that the CEUDA membership is based across Canada, and includes regional diversity; that is why we are pleased to offer members services and information in English and French so as to reflect the situation and particular needs of the two official-language communities.

E-mails

With computers at home and ease of use of e-mails for communication, CEUDA Board members are engaging in many debates on any given issue via e-mail.  Board member should keep matters under debate confidential to the Board only, and to do so until such time as the Board has taken a position on the issue being debated; this means, Board members should refrain from copying everyone in their mailing list each and every e-mail they send and receive.  This is particularly important since copying everyone can accidentally lead to sending e-mails to the employer , which obviously makes the employer privy to our discussions on that item.  The point of not including people in your e-mail distributions which may include employer e-mail addresses and others outside the CEUDA Board cannot be stressed enough.

News Release
Regulation 12-2 reads that without authorization and direction by the National Executive, and/or by the Board of Directors in session, no Branch Officer shall purport to speak for the CEUDA in any correspondence with Members of Parliament, officials of Government, with offices and officials of the PSAC, the CLC, or any other Union, in press releases, letters to the press or press conferences, or any interviews or conferences involving radio or television media.  This policy provides additional clarity.

PSAC Policies
The PSAC has developed numerous policy statements on issues of concern to members. These policies provide direction to our union in bargaining, in our internal operation and in matters relating to our role in the Canadian labour movement. All policies and position papers have been adopted at PSAC Triennial National Conventions.  More information about these policies, which are printed in the booklet "Policy Papers and Resolutions of Record", can be obtained by contacting any PSAC Regional Office or the CEUDA National Office.

Students as Customs Officers
The Customs Excise Union Douanes Accise (CEUDA) is aware of the Treasury Board Policy with respect to the federal government's employment of students.  Further, CEUDA supports the government's Policy on student employment if the government will apply the Policy as intended: as a career-oriented initiative and not as a cheap-labour undertaking.

U/M Consultation
This Policy sets out the basis for U/M consultation at all levels and serves to foster sound U/M relations.  It also provides the framework for the formal U/M consultation committee process at the national, regional and headquarters, and district or local levels.  This Policy intends that the parties, both union and management, communicate frankly and honestly, in a reasonable way, to resolve issues at the lowest possible level. It also intends that each party take into account the views and interests of the other party and enter into the consultation process with an open mind in a relationship of mutual respect and goodwill.
