Canadian Police & Peace Officers' Memorial Service SEP 24-06 Parliament Hill, Ottawa ... On September 24, 1998 the Government of Canada officially proclaimed the last Sunday of September of every year as Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day. This National Memorial Day gives Canadians an opportunity each year to formally express appreciation for the dedication of police and peace officers, which made the ultimate tragic sacrifice to keep our communities safe. Unfortunately, our comrades are falling at an alarming rate; six to eight officers a year for the last twenty-three years. We now have a total of approximately seven hundred officers on the Honour Roll. The importance of their sacrifice is overwhelming.

Statement by the
CEUDA National President Concerning Members and activists of CEUDA are shocked by this brutality, and join me in condemning the violent acts that brought about these deaths. This horrible event is a strong reminder of the bravery of men and women who serve to protect us and of the sacrifices they make to confront the dangerous circumstances on our behalf, in order to make Canada a safer place. On behalf of the Customs Excise Union Douanes Accise, I would like to express condolences to the families of the officers who were killed as they carried out their duty in enforcing the law and protecting the public. At this moment of difficulty and loss, you are in our thoughts and prayers.

JULY 01-04 Fund raiser ... Cops for Cancer is a fundraising event created in 1994 by an Edmonton Sergeant who wanted to lend moral support to a child undergoing chemotherapy. The sentiment has caught on in Winnipeg and nation-wide. Today the program includes head shaves, coin collections, golf tournaments, BBQs, softball tournaments, road races and other events across the country. Brother Fred Milligan, Customs Officer and Peace Office participated in the fund raiser by having his head shaved - before and after photos.
