Sarnia work refusal
JAN 27  Overview ... A Customs Officer refused to work at 8:00 p.m., based on 2 Armed and Dangerous lookouts, one for an 18 year old equipped with an M16 machine gun that outputs 900 rounds or ammunition per minute.

The youth was suspected of being dressed in army fatigues, tried to kidnap a girl, and of also carrying a side-arm.

All other Customs Officers followed and refused.  Management took over operations.

A Customs Chief and CEUDA Representative commenced OSH investigation and suspended it after the first interview, agreeing to disagree.

Management advised that at 11:00 p.m. Labour Canada would investigate via a conference call; the Labour Affairs Officer refused to come on site and investigate or to review any pertinent documentation.

The call lasted almost an hour and was attended by 9 Customs Officers.

On a few occasions it looked like Labour Canada might rule danger, yet a verbal ruling of no danger was issues at about 11:55 p.m.
