How to
make a smart search of the CEUDA site
You can use a single word or
a phrase for your search, but the following tips can help you refine your
search for more specific results.
- First of all, our search
engine is not case sensitive, so using or not using capital letters won't affect the results. And in most cases you don't have to put a phrase within quotations ("..."). There is an exception which is mentioned below.
- Use the word AND to find two words that are close together. For example, type
moran AND fortin to find documents that have both names anywhere within the document.
- You can further refine this method by using the word NEAR. Typing in
vests NEAR moran will return documents where vests is within 50 words of
moran.
- You can use OR to find similar words within documents. For example, dogs OR puppies will return documents with either word, but not necessarily both.
You can limit your search by using AND NOT. Typing in surfing AND NOT internet will return documents related to the sport and not the Web.
- Here's the exception we mentioned earlier about using quotes ("...") around phrases. You have to use quotes if you want to use AND, OR, NOT or NEAR literally. Typing "cats and dogs" will get you documents with the phrase cats and dogs. If you don't use the quotes, you'll retrieve documents that contain both words anywhere in the document.
- You can use a single asterisk (*) to look for words that begin with the same letters. For example, typing key* will find documents with key, keying, keyhole, keyboard, etc.
